DM was great, horrible venue experiance
Tonight was no exception. I've seen In Place of Monuments numerous times over the years, and their ability and energy to put on a great show never fail to impress. They always have a good blend of songs from their current projects as well as delivering the hits from older albums.
Our seats were the first row of section 14, and we were expecting to have a great view without people's heads right in front of us. My problem with the show was I kept on getting pulled from enjoying the event almost constantly by the various situations around me.
We pre-ordered the album just to get the pre-sale so we could get good seats. What we were met with was a row of folding chairs right in front of our row. These were not assigned seats and random people would sit in them and generally be obnoxious.
So much so, just about everyone in my row complained to event staff. This caused some of the squatters to become passive aggressive to the point of just returning to the folding chair seats after just being kicked out. Some of the people in my row exchanged words with these individuals.
Eventually, enough people complained to one security person they cleared the row of people. It didn't stop new people from showing up, more people complaining, more removing people. This back-and-forth nonsense went on for just about all of the show. Some would listen, most wouldn't.
It was so annoying that it really took me out of the experience almost totally. Which was a shame, because the setlist was really good. If I ever come back here, which is not likely at this point, I will never sit in this section again for fear of the same thing happening.
